Welcome to “The Velvet Ewe”

Wooly faces, kind hearts, and smiling sheep on southern soil.

meet our babydoll southdown flock.
Are you wondering right about now…

if you need a babydoll?

  • Small Batch:
We raise our Babydoll Southdown lambs on a small scale so we can give each one the care and attention it deserves. Every pairing is thoughtfully planned, and every lamb is raised by hand with quiet presence and purpose.
  • Why Babydolls?
Babydoll Southdown sheep are beloved for their calm nature, size, and smiling faces. They’re gentle on the land and gentle with people making them ideal for families, first-time shepherds, and small homesteads.
  • Pricing:
Our lambs are priced individually based on their sex, markings, registration eligibility, and parentage. Most lambs range from $800 and up. Pricing reflects the quality of our animals, pedigrees, the intentional way they’re raised, and the time we invest into each one. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your lamb, with the remaining balance due at pickup or prior to transport. Lambs are not reserved until a deposit is received.
  • Health:
Every lamb leaves our farm fully weaned and socialized, with age-appropriate vaccinations and regular deworming. Each lamb’s tail is docked and they will be tagged with their USDA ear tag. We’ll also provide a copy of our Babydoll Sheep Care Guide and helpful tips for settling them into their new home.
  • Purchasing:
When you’re ready to reserve a lamb, we’ll help guide you through the process. Whether you’re a first-time owner or adding to an established flock, we’re here to answer questions and offer support. We want every lamb to go to a loving, prepared home so we’ll walk through the basics together and make sure it’s a good fit for both of you. A copy of our Babydoll Sheep Care Guide will be sent to you once your deposit has been placed to help give you a jumpstart on preparing to bring home your new smiling sheep!
  • Guarantee:
Once a deposit is placed, your lamb is officially reserved for you. In the rare event that something unforeseen were to happen to the animal while in our care (injury, illness, or death) before pickup, delivery, or transport, we guarantee a full refund of your deposit, or you may choose to transfer it toward another lamb, if one is suitable and available. After pickup, the animal is in the complete responsibility of the new owner, although we will be glad to make any recommendations of care to the best of our ability.
  • Pick Up:
Lambs can be picked up at our farm in Etta, Mississippi once they are weaned and fully ready for their next step. We’ll coordinate pickup timing with you directly, and provide helpful tips to make the ride home as smooth and stress-free as possible. Every lamb will leave our farm with a Veterinary Health Certificate for out of state travel.
  • Transport:
If you’re unable to pick up your lamb from our farm, we’re happy to help coordinate with a trusted shipper. We work with transporters that are highly recommended, experienced, responsible, and gentle with animals. We’ll work with you to find a solution that keeps your lamb safe and comfortable during travel. In some cases, we are able to provide delivery from our farm to yours and can determine this as we talk further.

Thoughtfully raised from our farm to yours. Meet our rams and ewes.

Our Rams & Ram Lambs

Our rams play a quiet but essential role in the heart of our flock. Each one is a reflection of what we value most in our Babydoll sheep … a calm disposition, balanced conformation, and small, true-to-type stature. These boys are the foundation behind every lamb we raise.

Chestnut – SOLD

apple fox farm • spotted + spot carrier ram • bsra registered

This handsome boy probably would have lived on our farm the rest of his life, when a kind family contacted us hoping to find a potential ram and fell in love with Chestnut and his bloodlines as much as us. We are so excited to welcome them to the Babydoll Southdown Family and see them begin their Babydoll flock. Chestnut has been a complete joy for us and has been a part of our farm since he was a young weanling.

This consideration was a little easier knowing we have retained several of his daughters on our farm for our breeding program and this would be the best thing to do, but it was not a light decision to make. As much as we will terribly miss his smiling face and gentle nudges for chin scratches, Chestnut is in his prime breeding age and will carry on to produce beautiful lambs for their farm which is such a special season. It’s not an easy decision to let him go, but I know it’s time to let someone else love him, too.
